About the Real Economic Society

The Real Economic Society is a registered Canadian not-for-profit corporation whose mission is to educate, advocate and stimulate real economic change, as outlined in The Real Economist – Reorienting Human Values and Behaviours Toward a Symbiotic Stewardship of Earth. This is a living work-in-progress started by James West in 2006, wbo, through his study of the global financial system and economics, came to the realization that humanity was on an accelerating trajectory toward extinction through economic misunderstanding.

“Its not that Aristotle and Adam Smith were wrong,” says James. “Its that neither one of them were alive to experience the effect of unbridled natural resource exploitation by a disproportionate population relative to the ecological capacities of Earth”.

James began studying economics by reading Aristotle, François Quesnay, Thomas Malthus, Thomas Hobbes, Adam Smith, David Ricardo, Maynard Keynes, Karl Marx, Frederick Hayak, Ludwig von Mises, Milton Friedman, Naomi Klein, Nicholas Gerogescu-Roegan, Herman Daly and many other lesser known contributors to Classical, neo-Classical, and ecological economics.

Through this process, he began to formulate his ideas for a revision to the baseline perception of what constitutes the economy, what qualifies as “economics”, how it needs to be revised to recognize its place as a system of exploitation of the Earth’s natural endowment, and how it is contrary to the long-term interests of humanity to continue mismanaging economic and ecologic resources as is currently happening.

The Society has been exclusively funded by private members, and in 2019, it purchased a small agricultural property in Dunnville, Ontario, Canada to demonstrate some of the agronomist concepts outlined in the book.

The over-arching goal of the Real Economic Society is to promote the Real Economist, the Real Economic Model, and adoption of Real Economic Behaviours for Advanced Human Beings.

The Real Economic Society is always looking for like-minded human beings who recognize the self-destructive path humanity is on, and wish to contribute to the cause of a responsible apex species protecting its long term interest by protecting the biological space orb upon which we all travel at 2.1 million kilometres per hour.
