News of the execution of Hamas leader Ismael Haniyeh via drone in the wee hours of  the morning is a clear sign that Israel has dropped all pretense of a developed nation governed by the rule of law, and is unconcerned that it is patently obvious to everyone in the world that they are a terrorist organization running roughshod over the Arab world thanks to support from the United States.

The Israelis executed the political leader of Hamas with whom they were in the process – or at least the pretence – of a negotiations for a cease fire in Gaza. The did so on Iranian sovereign territory on the eve of that country’s inauguration of incoming president Masoud Pezeshkian.

Such a bad-faith transgression of diplomatic protocol defines Israel as a rogue lawless state, and no country should have any diplomatic relationship with such an entity.

The only way to halt the genocide against Palestinians and the theft of real estate and resources that is the prime motivator for the Israeli aggression would be to bomb them into submission with a superior military force.

So far, the only nations capable of mounting such an attack are reticent to do so for fear of provoking an expanded conflict. This is the convergence of circumstances Israel is all too aware of and is in a hurry to take full advantage of to improve their beachfront and eliminate the rightful owners of their land.

That the strengthening of the Israeli occupation serves the interest of the United States is glaringly obvious, and the thorough campaign of corrupt political bribery that has been the device by which they secure defacto control of US foreign policy in the region is a gaping wrent in the self-image of the US as protector of democracy and freedom.

Even Kamala Harris, whose character suggests she must be struggling with the brutality and violence of the genocide against women and children, has been sufficiently compromised that she too acknowledges her AIPAC funding.

The assault on human rights around the world, including Ukraine, the ongoing oppression in China, Saudi Arabia, Congo, Venezuela, Sudan, Russia and Myanmar demonstrates unequivocally that the developed G7 countries are either complacent, complicit, or otherwise benefited by these ongoing travesties, and the world is thus revealed to the younger generations as a far more cruel place than portrayed in education media.

The moral hazard the governments complicit in the prosecution of these transgressions have onboarded and  conveyed to the citizenry of these complicit nations expands and accelerates a commensurate degradation in the observation of and compliance with laws by individuals and corporations.

Why should we obey laws that are flagrantly violated on a massive scale by the very lawmakers who enact them?

If one was to extrapolate what the future holds for the lower half of the population in a resource-constrained future, it looks pretty apparent that euthanizing people is not above the moral thresholdo for that portion of humanity we call wealthy.

At some point, the wealthy governing class must be thinking, the masses of oppressed peoples may find themselves united and willing to engage with the establishment security apparatus. Putin and Xi have no qualms about nipping that possibility in the bud by assassinating, imprisoning and disappearing anyone with any influence whatsoever who dares criticize or challenge the legitimacy of the national power structures.

But history has shown us again and again that the “middle” class – those above the lower 50% but nowhere near the upper 10%  – will support oppressive regimes as long as there is bacon to go with the eggs and toast every morning, and a gin and tonic to cap off the day’s imaginary hard work.

While the governing class finishes destroying the rest of the ecology through mal-regulation, it behooves the thinking man to stay mum, drunk and poor.

If you can last through the climate collapse, you might be fortunate enough to be around long enough to see AI slaughter the governing/elite segment of our late stage society with equal indifference as it does everyone else.
